Timber Barons in the Pacific Northwest had their mystique, but few matched that of the Polsons. At the peak of their dominance in the first half of the 20th Century the Polsons owned every part of the supply chain, from Timber land and mills, to ships and their own locomotives. Ah, but ain't that America. Today the Polson namesake is bestowed upon the sprawling 26-room mansion that has served as the principal history museum for Grays Harbor County since it was founded in 1976. The 6,500 square foot colonial revival styled home was constructed in 1924 for Arnold and Priscilla Polson, heirs to the logging firm that Arnold’s father Alex and uncle Robert founded in 1891. It also houses the world's largest indoor log. You heard me. It's true.

The Polson Museum played host to Horses Cut Shop and the Northwest Timber Revival on Saturday, August 30th, 2014. This day long, free music festival celebrated the rich timber history of the Northwest by selling t-shirts representing iconic, local companies instrumental in the timber industry that defined the region. All profits from the sale of the Polson Museum T-Shirt go back to Grays Harbor College and the Natural Resource Department's Timber Technology Degree program to help train the next generation of timbermen and foresters.
