A WHALE OF A DRINK
Moby Dick's Bar (1971-1988) on Minneapolis' famed Block E anchored one of the most seedy and storied strips of debauchery in the United States. In 1987 the city had an official celebration of their decision to demolish the block, as a penned lyric attests: "Moby Dick's is beached at last, Problems vast, now are past, Bye bye Block E". But like all things beautiful, it lasts in memory. Just mention the name Moby Dicks to any bar-going resident of the Twin Cities at the time and you'll surely be greeted with a knowing smile and most likely a whale of a drink.
